Folk & Classical Arts

Protecting folk and classical music and dance is essential as they are repositories of our cultural heritage, reflecting our history, traditions, and values. These art forms serve as mediums for storytelling, preserving cultural narratives, and passing down ancestral knowledge from generation to generation. Additionally, they foster a sense of community, identity, and pride, enriching our cultural landscape and promoting cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. By safeguarding folk and classical music and dance, we ensure that future generations can continue to benefit from their beauty, significance, and contribution to our collective heritage.

The Foundation has diligently worked to safeguard and promote folk and classical music and dance, organizing numerous captivating performances and providing vital financial support to musicians and dancers during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lockdown Live

The unsung torch-bearers of India’s rich cultural legacy have always struggled to make ends meet. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, has brought about an unprecedented situation. The lockdowns and the rules of social distancing have affected everyone, from big business to small tea stalls, and the artistes — folk musicians, artisans and craftsmen — had been among the hardest hit. And it is the plight of these indigenous artistes that Prabha Khaitan Foundation has been trying to bring to highlight and heal. Prabha Khaitan Foundation has always been dedicated to the overall development of the social, cultural, welfare and humanitarian aspects of Indian society. Prabha Khaitan Foundation made a humble attempt to provide a few with direct financial benefits during this crisis by starting Lockdown Live, a series of online events in Bihar, Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan & West Bengal. The artist performs live virtually and we provide an honorarium from our Foundation. There have been about 250 such sessions already and over 2000 artists have been benefited.
