Understanding Cyber Crime in the Digital Age

An insightful session on cyber safety and digital awareness was recently organised under the Prabha Khaitan Foundation’s Sahyog initiative at Jaipur. Focusing on the theme ‘Trends and Prevention of Cyber Crime’, the programme brought together participants eager to better understand the evolving nature of cyber threats and the measures necessary to safeguard themselves in an increasingly digital world.

The session was led by Shantanu K. Singh, IPS, DIG Cyber Crime, Rajasthan Police, who shared valuable insights into emerging cybercrime trends and the importance of timely action in the event of online fraud. Highlighting the significance of the first sixty minutes following a cybercrime incident, often referred to as the “Golden Hour,” he explained how prompt reporting can play a crucial role in freezing defrauded funds, preserving digital evidence, preventing further transfer of money, and enabling authorities to act swiftly against perpetrators. His observations underscored the importance of awareness, vigilance, and immediate response in strengthening cybercrime investigations and improving the chances of recovery.

An accomplished IPS officer, Shantanu K. Singh currently serves as DIG Cyber Crime, Rajasthan Police. Through his work, he has been actively involved in addressing cyber threats, strengthening digital security frameworks, and promoting public awareness around cybercrime prevention.

The session offered practical guidance on navigating the challenges of the digital age and encouraged participants to adopt safer online practices. Through real-world examples and expert insights, the programme fostered greater awareness of the risks associated with cybercrime while equipping attendees with the knowledge needed to respond effectively in critical situations.
