Echoes of North East Resonates with Literary Voices at Guwahati

The two-day regional literature festival “Echoes of North East”, curated by Prabha Khaitan Foundation and supported by OIL India Limited in association with Gauhati University concluded successfully on 6–7 February 2026 at Gauhati University campus, leaving behind a resonant celebration of the region’s rich literary, cultural, and ecological narratives.

The festival brought together eminent writers, poets, scholars, and thinkers from across the North-East to engage in meaningful conversations around language, identity, memory, ecology, and storytelling. The festival reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to creating inclusive cultural platforms that amplify regional voices and foster dialogue rooted in literature and lived experience.

The inaugural session set the tone for two days of thoughtful exchange, followed by sessions such as Women’s Voices in North-Eastern Indian Literature, North East Literature in English, and Necessity of Mother Tongue, each highlighting the plurality of languages and perspectives that define the region. Poets’ meets like “Hills That Speak: Nature as Voice in North-East Poetry” and “Rivers, Rain, and Roots: Ecology in North-Eastern Poems” wove together concerns of land, environment, and belonging through verse.

Day Two continued the literary journey with sessions including My Literary Inspirations, Telling Our Own Stories: Voices from the North-East, and Myth, Legend, and History in North-Eastern Writing, underscoring the importance of reclaiming narratives and preserving cultural memory. Across sessions, chairs and speakers engaged deeply with audiences, sparking reflection and dialogue among students, scholars, and literature enthusiasts.

Authors, Poets, Academicians from North East like – Dhrubojyoti Bora, N Kiran Kumar Singh, Dkhar Streamlet, Jyotirmoy Prodhani, Satyakam Borthakur, Kairi Mog Choudhary , Ponung Ering Angu and many other scholars shared their valued views through readings, discussions & presentations.

Prabha Khaitan Foundation reiterated the Foundation’s belief that literature is a powerful medium for dialogue, empathy, and social connection, and that the voices of the North-East deserve sustained national and global attention.

Echoes of North East stood as a significant step towards building bridges between regional literature and wider audiences, leaving a lasting imprint on all who participated.
